Nisswa Minnesota Real Estate
Nisswa has the characteristic uniqueness of being a city that has been developed around a lake. The city was brought into existence because of the immense popularity of the Gull Lake present in this area, which brings in a lot of natives as well as tourists into this city each year. Today, Nisswa is one of the major hubs of tourism within Minnesota.
Location: Nisswa is located within the Crow Wing County in Minnesota, and is situated within the Micropolitan Statistical Area of Brainerd. The city area of Brainerd is situated to the south of Nisswa.
Importance: Nisswa is a small city with little significance other than its bustling tourism industry. The tourism industry is mainly because of the Gull Lake which provides several amenities and entertainment options to the visiting tourists. There are options for fishing and boating on the lakes as well as other activities such as golfing and playing tennis. All these features have made Nisswa one of the prominent areas in Minnesota.
The Nisswa Lake is also located within Nisswa, very close to the area of Brainerd. This lake is joined by a narrow water connection with the Roy Lake. Even these lakes have a bustling tourism activity around them.
Tourists who come here are attracted by the historical value that the city has. The area was previously known as the Smiley Township and was founded in the year 1900. The natives here were the Ojibwe Indians. Being inspired by them, Leon Lum, a resident here, began a movement to change the name of the city from Smiley Township to the Nisswa. The roots of the name hark back to the Ojibew word nessawae, which represents "three" or "in the middle." Today, tourists can check out various relics of the ancient Indian culture in many parts of Nisswa.
Nisswa has also importance because of its central location in Minnesota. Though it is not an important commercial center itself, its central location places it as an important transport hub for the entire region of Minnesota.
Size and Population: The area of Nisswa is 18.4 square miles in extent. More than 7 square miles of the area is occupied by water which is in the form of the various lakes, including the Gull Lake. The maximum density of population is situated in the areas where the water is present, which accounts for roughly 45% of the total area of the city. It has an elevation of 1,230 feet.
The population of Nisswa is a mere 1,953. However, at any given time, except in the winter, you can be sure of finding a lot more people here than this number because there are always a large number of tourists present here because of the various lakes.
Attractions: The most important attraction in Nisswa is the Gull Lake, which is a 38 mile shoreline lake present in and around the city. The lake is a premier fishing spot with a large population of bass, pan fish, northern pike and walleye among other species. People can hire boats and go fishing on these lakes. They can plan out single person holidays or can even take a small group of people such as their family with them. For big groups of people, the cruises are extremely popular options. These cruises will also take small groups of people, but they often specialize in taking up to a hundred people at a time.
This area has a lot of golfing action too. Many resorts have their own golf courses, which see a lot of returning tourists year after year. The golf courses have instructors so that amateurs can also enjoy the game of golf along with the various professionals that can be found on these courses. Tennis is another sport that is played to a large extent in Nisswa. Facilities for tennis are present in most tourist resorts and both locals and tourists are generally allowed to play the sport in these units.
Living Facilities: If you are a tourist, you will find several resorts to stay in Nisswa. The rates of these resorts are more expensive if you are looking for accommodation near the Gull Lake. You can also see some expensive holiday accommodation options such as cottages and lake homes. The budget will have to be raised if you are looking at such a place though, and pre-planning and booking will be required.
If you are planning to buy a lake property here, as a vacation home or even as a permanent home, you will find the option of lakeshore properties as well as homes in the interior areas. Again, Nisswa lakeshore properties are more expensive than the homes in the inner areas. Make sure to get a good reputed Brainerd real estate agent who will give you a tour of the places he or she is selling and will answer questions when you ask them. Take a look at all the neighborhoods here so that you know you are choosing the right kind of home for your needs.
